Shane van Gisbergen has completed the two biggest comebacks through the opening three rounds.
On 20 occasions in 2022, a driver has gained 10 or more positions in a race.
In every single race so far this season, at least one driver has gained 10 or more spots between lights out and the chequered flag.
Tim Slade is the only driver to have achieved the feat three times; Slade has done it at every event so far in 2022.
Race 7 at the most recent round in Melbourne featured a season-high four 10-or-more position gains.
It was in Race 6, however, that van Gisbergen completed 2022’s most impressive drive so far.
Van Gisbergen raced from 23rd to the podium, allaying fears of a tough race after being caught out in qualifying.
It came after van Gisbergen charged from 21st to sixth in Sydney, all after he went a lap down after an early off.
Will Brown and Garry Jacobson have also put in 15-position gains in 2022.
Brown also gained 15 spots in Sydney, while Jacobson somehow raced from 21st to sixth in a 20-lap Albert Park sprint.
Jacobson later raced from 24th to 10th, helping himself to 29 positions gained in a day.
It comes as attempting to convert from ARMOR ALL Pole Position continues to be a source of irritation for drivers.
Just one of nine races in 2022 have seen a pole-sitter go on to win that race.
Fittingly, that too was van Gisbergen, at Symmons Plains in Race 4.
Which driver will make the next big charge when the season resumes in Perth?
