The quiet achiever of the 2024 season was a big beneficiary of Tickford's two-car turnaround

As 2024 winds down, Supercars.com is ranking the top 10 drivers of the 2024 Repco Supercars Championship, continuing with Thomas Randle, who comes in as our #7.

At the halfway mark of the season after Darwin, Thomas Randle was buried down in 14th in the standings, whilst teammate Cam Waters was eight places ahead of him in sixth.

Fast forward to the end of the season, and the pair were ranked fourth and fifth, with Randle surging up nine places in the final 12 races after a career-best run of form.

Having struggled in a four-car Tickford outfit since making his full-time debut in 2022, Randle was able to establish himself as one to keep an eye on in the near future.

Why we picked him

It was something of a surprise to see Thomas Randle's name pop up in fifth in the final standings. However, upon a further look at his season, it was a tale of two halves. It was a slow start to the year for Tickford as a whole, however the back half of the year saw the 28-year-old strike a rich vein of form and help Tickford into second in the teams points. After scoring four top 10 finishes in the first half of the season, Randle claimed eight in the final 12 races, including three trips to the podium. It could've very easily been four podiums and a maiden victory for Randle after qualifying on pole in Tasmania, only for it to all unravel in the race with some crucial mistakes that culminated in a collision that was ultimately the final nail in the coffin for Broc Feeney's title hopes. Whilst there is still a little bit of polish needed in those high-pressure moments, the improvement was plain to see for Randle in 2024, and his consistency in the back half of the year is a strong platform to build upon for 2025.

What we expect next season

Claiming that first career win has to be number one priority for Randle next year. Whilst Cam Waters is the undisputed team leader as one of the best drivers in this part of the world, the head-to-head numbers this season suggest that Randle is very much in the 2017 Sandown 500 winner's shadow. As any Super2 Series winner does, Randle has the talent to make it to the top step in Supercars, and needs to find a way to capitalise when he is in a good position such as Tasmania. Randle is also set to have an experienced pair of hands alongside him at the enduros, with James Moffat sliding over from the #6 Monster Energy entry following the signing of Mark Winterbottom. If Tickford keep building in their two-car model, there's every chance Randle could become a fixture at the front of the field.
