Volunteers are the backbone of motorsport, with their time and dedication allowing competitors to go racing around Australia throughout the 2022 Repco Supercars Championship.
To commemorate the tremendous efforts of our officials throughout the 2022 season, Supercars.com has highlighted seven key statistics.
NUMBER OF VOLUNTEERS: 2853
More than 6000 people are currently ‘active’ in the Supercars volunteer database, dedicating their time to support live motorsport events.
More than 2800 of them attended events throughout 2022.
Event and race officials complete many different roles, from gatekeepers and fire and rescue marshals to accreditation and corporate attendants.
OLDEST VOLUNTEER IN 2022: 89
While we prefer the term 'most experienced', this treasured official takes the crown as our oldest official for the year.
YOUNGEST VOLUNTEER: 16
Our youngest participant involved in Supercars events this year is just 16 years of age.
NUMBER OF FIRST-TIME OFFICIALS: 455
Of the more than 2800 officials across the 12 rounds of the 2022 Repco Supercars Championship, more than 450 of them were first-timers.
More than 190 of them were referred by an existing official to join the team!
BOTTLES OF WATER PROVIDED TO VOLUNTEERS IN 2022: 48,120
Keeping the very important people, our officials, hydrated, is thirsty work.
NUMBER OF VOLUNTEER MEALS HANDED OUT: 34,550
At every Supercars event, we provide lunch each day and dinner on Sunday nights.
For those that start at the crack of dawn (if not earlier) we also provide breakfast, equating to over 34,550 meals provided in 2022.
STRANGEST THING TO HAPPEN ON THE TRACK: Sinkhole at the Repco Bathurst 1000
Although we are told no photos were captured, the surprising moment a sinkhole appeared on the track at a drenched Mount Panorama in October, remains the strangest thing our officials have encountered on track in 2022.
