Bathurst co-driver pairings: What we know so far

13 May 2022
Seats are filling up for the 2022 Great Race

Co-drives for this year's Repco Bathurst 1000 are filling up, with just nine full-time co-drive slots remaining.

As of May 13, five teams have confirmed their full suite of drivers.

On Friday, Shell V-Power Racing Team joined Tickford Racing, Walkinshaw Andretti United, Erebus Motorsport and Grove Racing.

Only Shell V-Power and Erebus have locked in their driving combinations.

Tony D'Alberto and Alex Davison will return alongside Anton De Pasquale and Will Davison respectively.

It ensures Scott McLaughlin will miss the race for a second year running.

At least one of the 2021 podium pairings will be different

David Russell will return with Brodie Kostecki for a bid at another Great Race podium, with Will Brown to again be joined by Jack Perkins.

Fabian Coulthard will return to the Walkinshaw fold, with Warren Luff staying for a ninth campaign.

Earlier, Brad Jones Racing confirmed three of its four combinations for the Great Race.

Dean Fiore and Dale Wood return with BJR with Bryce Fullwood and Andre Heimgartner respectively, with Jordan Boys confirmed alongside Macauley Jones.

Team 18 has Michael Caruso contracted to a co-drive, but has yet to fill the other slot.

The other team at the top of town, Red Bull Ampol Racing, has yet to confirm its line-up.

The team has big names to choose from; Garth Tander has been alongside Shane van Gisbergen since 2019.

Jamie Whincup has retired, and is expected to make a call soon. That could push Craig Lowndes in a different direction.

Last year, Triple Eight fielded a wildcard for Broc Feeney and Russell Ingall.

Erebus and Boost Mobile will again partner Greg Murphy and Richie Stanaway; border restrictions scuppered their 2021 hopes.

McLaughlin had been readying for a Bathurst return in Shell V-Power red; last year, the team called on Alex Davison as his replacement.

Three into one won't go for Triple Eight

McLaughlin will again miss the race; D'Alberto is a long-time fixture of the Ford squad, and finished third in the 2017 race.

The Davison brothers finished 10th last year.

McLaughlin's focus will shift to his IndyCar campaign; he is second overall after four races.

Matt Stone Racing, PremiAir Racing and Blanchard Racing Team have also yet to confirm their line-ups.

The latter is expected to again field team owner Tim Blanchard with Tim Slade; they combined to score a top 10 last year.

This year's Repco Bathurst 1000 will be held on October 9.

The 2022 season will resume at Winton on May 21-22. Purchase your tickets now.
