James Golding will supplement his sensational Supercars comeback with a number close to his heart.

Golding was confirmed as Garry Jacobson’s replacement at PremiAir Racing.

The 26-year-old will make his first full-time starts since the 2019 Newcastle 500.

Golding will race with the #31, which has long been his karting number.

He was already a multiple Victorian karting champion when he moved into the Victorian Formula Ford championship in 2013.

He then stepped up to the national series in 2014, and finished third behind winner Thomas Randle and Jordan Lloyd.

Golding’s reunion with the #31 continues PremiAir Racing’s motivation to let their drivers race with a number of their choice.

Garry Jacobson, who Golding replaced, raced with his father's #76.

Golding recently carried his #31 to second in the S5000 standings.

He is also running the #31 in the KZ2 national karting category, and is third overall after three meetings.

Golding made his Supercars debut with GRM's famous #33 in the 2016 enduros, before GRM let him use the #31 in dual wildcard starts in 2017.

He raced with GRM's #34 in 2018 and 2019.

"The 31 is the number I have used for most of my career," Golding said.

"It was the number that was on the first go-kart I got when I was a kid, so I just adopted the number, and it has stuck ever since."

Golding will make his PremiAir Racing debut on Friday. Purchase your NTI Townsville 500 tickets now.
