The benefits of BJR's two four-car Gen3 tests

Consecutive four-car track days have helped Brad Jones Racing fast-track its Gen3 learning and driver comfort.

BJR tested its four new Camaros at Winton Motor Raceway on Tuesday and Wednesday.

The team opted to follow its Tuesday shakedown with a full test day on Wednesday, and it has proven dividends.

Despite the Winton heat, the drivers were able to find physical comfort in their new cars, and quickly move into tuning.

Beyond the usual new-car niggling issues, the BJR Camaros were eventually put through their paces.

BJR ran five cars on the day, with Lochie Dalton lapping his Super2 ZB Commodore.

"I had a pretty productive day, the car rolled out a bit nicer today which was good,” Andre Heimgartner said.

"Did some tuning stuff but the track got a bit hot so what we were able to learn was a bit limited for the rest of the day.

"We got some idea on some set-up direction so we can go away and come together with it over the next couple of days.

"I’m pretty happy with how we’re sitting and how the car feels so we'll find out exactly where we are when we get to Sydney.”

Bryce Fullwood echoed Heimgartner’s sentiment, and reiterated that the real pace will show come the Sydney test on fresh tyres.

“I think I’m a lot more comfortable in the car, ergonomically,” Fullwood said.

"Come the Sydney test when everyone puts new tyres on the car I think we’ll have a better idea of where we’re actually at.

"We’ve played around with it a lot today… I still feel like there were times where we had something that wasn’t too bad.

"I’m thankful that we’ve had these two days in the car and am excited for Sydney to see where we stand.”

To Thursday, all teams bar Team 18 have now tested their new Gen3 cars.

Dick Johnson Racing, PremiAir Racing and Matt Stone Racing rolled out their second cars on Thursday morning.

Team 18 has pushed its maiden shakedown to Friday February 17, with all cars testing at Sydney Motorsport Park on Wednesday February 22.

Next Wednesday’s Sydney test will be open from the public, with track action to commence at 8:30am.

The 2023 Repco Supercars Championship will commence at the Thrifty Newcastle 500 on March 10-12.
