Ex-Dick Johnson Racing Gen3 Supercar laps famous oval
Gen3 Ford tackles Charlotte Motor Speedway in the United States
Car used for historic wind tunnel testing at the end of 2023
A Ford Mustang Gen3 Supercar has rolled out at one of world motorsport’s most famous ovals.
As revealed on Miedecke Motorsport’s social channels, a Gen3 Mustang has taken to Charlotte Motor Speedway, home of NASCAR’s iconic Coca-Cola 600 race.
The car is an ex-Dick Johnson Racing Mustang, raced by Will Davison in the opening rounds of the 2023 Repco Supercars Championship.
Dubbed chassis DJRS-03, Davison raced the car to DJR’s first podium of the Gen3 era, before the two-time Bathurst winner stepped into a new car.
After racing in 2023, DJRS-03 was sent to wind tunnel testing in the United States, where it has remained ever since.
The car was driven by European sportscar stars Christopher Mies, Dennis Olsen and Frederic Vervisch, who raced to GTD Pro class victory in last weekend’s Rolex 24 at Daytona.
In a reward for the win, which was Ford Performance’s first major victory with its new GT3 Mustang, the drivers sampled the Supercar at Charlotte. Mies was captured with Supercars legend Dick Johnson, who personally handed the reins to the drivers.
Mies, Olsen and Vervisch combined in their Ford, prepared by Multimatic Motorsports, to defeat the likes of Chevrolet, BMW, Mercedes-AMG and Ferrari in a hotly-contested Daytona race.
Supercar machinery has made a splash overseas in recent years, courtesy of global Ford boss Jim Farley.
In December 2023, Ford CEO Farley has enjoyed a day out in Australia scored seat time in a Gen3 Mustang Supercar, with Tickford Racing star Cam Waters driving.
Farley also took Hollywood and talkshow star Jimmy Fallon for a drive in a Gen2 Mustang in 2022, with the car also a headline act at the 2021 Goodwood Festival of Speed.
