Declan Fraser has one hand on the 2022 Super2 crown after taking victory at the VALO Adelaide 500.

Fraser will carry an extended 105-point margin into Sunday over Zak Best.

The Saturday race was shortened to 14 laps after two Safety Car periods.

The race was first neutralised after a crash for Aaron Seton on lap 6.

Chaos ensured at the restart, with as many as three separate incidents occurring around the circuit.

With 150 points remaining, only Best and Matt Payne, who is 144 points down, can deny Fraser the title.

Pole-sitter Fraser opened up a margin after leading Payne into Turn 1.

The race ran green for the opening five laps before Seton was sent airborne at Turn 6.

Seton defended his position and was tipped into a spin by Cameron Crick into the Turn 6 tyre barriers.

The impact lifted the #35 Matt Stone Commodore into the air, with Seton coming to rest.

The race was neutralised with Fraser leading Payne, Cameron Hill, Best and Tyler Everingham.

The full-course yellow was extended after Super3 driver Shane Beikoff’s AU Falcon blew up around Turn 4.

The circuit was cleaned from Turn 4 to Turn 7 before the race resumed on lap 12.

Fraser skipped away from Payne, with Hill holding off Best behind.

From there, the race turned on its head — at the final corner, Jason Gomersall lost control and careened into Zane Morse.

Jaylyn Robotham then overtook Everingham, which encouraged a train of cars in close proximity behind.

Angelo Mouzouris hit the rear of Jay Hanson into Turn 7, which sent Matt Chahda into a spin.

Just behind them, Crick was turned by Ryal Harris at Turn 6.

The Safety Car was deployed once again, with Fraser leading the field across the line as time certain ticked over.

It was Fraser’s third win of the year, and first since Sandown in August.

Payne crossed the line second ahead of Hill and Best, with Everingham overhauling Robotham for fifth.

Thomas Maxwell crossed the line seventh ahead of Harris, Nash Morris and an ailing Hanson.

Brad Vaughan finished ahead of Super3 title rival Kai Allen, who narrowly missed hitting Seton in the earlier crash.

The Dunlop Series season will conclude on Sunday with Race 2 at 1:25pm local time.
