Thousands pack into big top for after-race concert

Aussie Hip Hop Legends, Hilltop Hoods, ‘lifted the roof’ off the famous big top at Reid Park on Saturday night, thrilling thousands who packed into the Supercars concert.

Fans of all ages, who had free entry to the concert care of a same day ticket to the NTI Townsville 500, crammed in to see the ten-time ARIA award-winning superstars perform in their trademark style which included pyrotechnics, a horn section and live animations on a giant LED screen.

It’s the first concert Supercars has staged at its North Queensland event since 2019.

Thousands flocked to the big top from the moment the opening race of the event (won by Shane van Gisbergen) finished on Saturday afternoon.

Supercars team personnel and drivers were spotted in the crowd, taking in the performance after a gruelling 250km race.

DJ Total Eclipse got the party started with a set featuring much-loved party anthems of the 80s, 90s, and 2000s prior to the Hilltop Hoods performance.

The NTI Townsville 500 is supported by the Queensland Government through Tourism and Events Queensland as part of a growing calendar of sporting, cultural and regional events throughout the State.

Big name music acts will be announced in coming weeks for the marquee Supercars events that will round out the 2022 calendar; the Boost Mobile Gold Coast 500 (28-30 October) and the blockbuster return of the Adelaide 500 (1-4 December).

Cars will return on Sunday for Race 20 ARMOR ALL Qualifying at 10:10am local time.
