Mark Warren has been appointed by the South Australian Motor Sport Board (SAMSB) as its new Chief Executive Officer.

Experienced motorsport administrator Warren previously held the role from 2010 to 2016.

He later left to oversee the completion and successful launch of The Bend Motorsport Park as the venue’s inaugural general manager.

Warren now returns to the re-formed SAMSB as its CEO.

He will have responsibility for major events including the 2023 Bridgestone World Solar Challenge and the upcoming 2022 Adelaide 500.

The popular event will be the 2022 Supercars season finale on December 1-4.

Warren was delighted to be able to spearhead the event's return.

"I’ve been drawn back to the role because of my passion for the Adelaide 500 and a vision to make it into something even bigger than it has been in its past," he said.

"With Supercars Australia entering a new phase of its evolution, both in terms of its ownership and the imminent arrival of the new Gen3 racing cars, it’s a great time to be involved. The opportunity to work with Andrew Daniels as Chairman is also very exciting for me.

"The December timeline for this year’s Adelaide 500 is obviously a challenge, but I think the experience I bring and the major event know-how we have in South Australia will ensure we will stage an outstanding season finale over the four days in December."

Peter Malinauskas MP, Premier of South Australia, said: "I congratulate Mark on his appointment and look forward to working with him and the South Australian Motor Sports Board to ensure our State once again becomes a leader in staging major motorsport events."

Andrew Daniels, SAMSB Chair, added: "Mark has a rare combination of marketing and engineering expertise that has made him one of Australia’s most respected motorsport administrators, so we’re absolutely delighted that we’ve been able to lure him back to the role.

"Adelaide has a national and global reputation for major event excellence, and we know how to rise to a challenge.

"We’re looking forward to Mark starting in his new role and leading us into an exciting new era of motorsport in South Australia."

Shane Howard, Supercars CEO, congratulated Warren on his appointment.

"The Adelaide 500 has always been a stand-out on the Supercars calendar and we’re absolutely thrilled that we will be finishing the 2022 Repco Supercars Championship around the streets of Adelaide," Howard said.

"We’re delighted to congratulate Mark on his new role, and we will do whatever is necessary to support him and ensure we return the Adelaide event to its very best."

The 2022 season will resume at Winton Motor Raceway in three weeks.
