Matt Payne has claimed victory in a chaotic Dunlop Series finale at Sandown, which featured a last-lap pile-up.

Payne crossed the line second behind Dean Fiore, who was penalised for being outside his grid box.

It was the second time in as many days that the driver second on the road won the race.

Points leader Declan Fraser won on Saturday despite crossing the line in second.

Fraser recovered to ninth in Race 2 after being turned around by pole-sitter Thomas Maxwell.

Maxwell was one of several drivers implicated in the final-lap incident.

Super3 driver Jason Gomersall crashed at Turn 3 ahead of the leaders.

Fiore skated off, threw mud onto the circuit and retained the lead, but all chaos ensued behind him.

Sixth-placed Maxwell hit the stricken Gomersall, as did Angelo Mouzouris and Matt McLean.

Matt Chahda, who was third on the road, also spun on the mud, as did Jaylyn Robotham.

It came after a late Safety Car restart after James Masterton pulled off at Turn 2 with damage.

Masterton clashed with Super3 rival Garry Hill at Turn 1 and suffered broken steering.

Payne inherited victory ahead of Jack Perkins, who is making a cameo for Eggleston Motorsport.

Zak Best, who finished the race in third, claimed overall round honours for the second time this season.

Fiore and Fraser rounded out the podium.

Fiore was classified fifth behind Tyler Everingham, with Jay Hanson sixth.

Best and Everingham started 13th and 11th respectively, Payne and Perkins from fourth and seventh.

Chahda and Robotham were classified 24th and 25th.

Brad Vaughan benefited from a late off for Kai Allen to claim eighth overall and Super3 honours.

Fraser and Aaron Seton rounded out the top 10.

It was Payne's second win of the season following his Perth breakthrough in April.

Fraser will carry a reduced 114-point lead over Best to the Repco Bathurst 1000 in October.

Payne moved from fifth to third, and is 150 points behind Fraser.
