Perth in running for 2027 Supercars season opener
Cook Labor Government announced $217.5 million commitment to new project
Construction is set to begin in 2025-26, completion planned 2027
A new Perth Street Circuit could open the 2027 Supercars season, amid the Cook Labor Government’s plans to invest in a groundbreaking new precinct.
The WA Government has made a $217.5 million commitment to the project, demonstrating its investment in motorsport and its vision to make Perth a hub for world-class events.
The new circuit, inspired by the success of Adelaide, Townsville and the Gold Coast, would elevate Supercars in Western Australia. Notably, it would deliver night racing under lights, with permanent infrastructure including grandstands, a function centre, and a 20,000 capacity outdoor music amphitheatre.
Construction is set to begin in 2025-26, with completion planned for use in the 2027 Supercars season.
"Our aim is to deliver this event for 2027 as the opening round of our championship,” said Supercars CEO Shane Howard, who was joined on Sunday by drivers Andre Heimgartner, Aaron Love and Premier Cook.
“It will put this event up a scale that's never been seen here before in WA, and sets it alongside great events like the Melbourne Grand Prix, like Adelaide, like Gold Coast, like Townsville and like Bathurst, where you have over 200,000 people attending these great events.
“We are fully behind it, fully behind the government and we really thank them for identifying what motorsport brings, and providing this opportunity for Supercars to really elevate what we do in the state of WA.”
Should the new venue host the 2027 season opener, Western Australia and Perth would host the first round of a new season for the first time.
An additional $17.6 million has been committed to grassroots motorsport with upgrades and works for a range of racetracks, kart clubs, motocross and speedways across the State.
It includes $10.75 million for Perth Motorplex in Kwinana towards a new Winged Outlaw Kart track, LED lighting and clubroom upgrades, as well as a new off-road vehicle area at the Motorplex to replace the current site in Medina.
The major package also includes a $1.3 million fund to deliver standalone medical facilities at Karting WA’s 13 tracks around the State.
"The Premier and his team have really identified how important motorsport is to a community and what it generates in economic deliverables,” Howard said.
“His commitment, all the way through from grassroots from karting to club motorsport into what will be the pinnacle here; it will be one of Supercars' greatest races.
"Having a street race here at this venue will take the sport to another level and will provide the overall entertainment that comes with a street race.
"It's not just about motorsport and a street race. Sure, we're the main show, but as we've discussed, we provide other entertainment in regard to concerts, family activities, and it's something that everybody can enjoy.
"To have this venue located in the city, surrounded by the stadium and the casino, that provides a multifunctional sporting entertainment precinct, this opportunity doesn't come along every day.
"And the Premier and his government have identified it and got behind it, and Supercars could not be more excited."
Supercars will return to Perth at CARCO.com.au Raceway on June 6-8. Tickets for the event, as well as the majority of the all 2025 events, are on sale now.
