Plans for a major multi-million dollar entertainment precinct in Perth, headlined by a new Perth Street Circuit, have been revealed.

On Sunday, the Cook Labor Government announced plans for a new $217.5 million precinct at Burswood Park, with the new circuit set for completion in 2027.

The street circuit – based on a highly successful model of street racing in Townsville and the Gold Coast – would see roads around Burswood Park converted into a race track.

The circuit would be laid around an amphitheatre and between the Perth Stadium and Crown Casino, which is a prime location and set-up for major on- and off-track entertainment and events.

Also included in Sunday’s announcement were a series of renders of what the new circuit would look like, with the city CBD and Perth Stadium providing a stunning backdrop.

The new venue would allow around 50,000 local and interstate visitors to turn out each day for a multi-day race event, and also cater for night-time racing under lights.

Permanent grandstands and other upgrades to the park are set to be included, creating public access and providing a new track for local motorsport enthusiasts.

Also included in the plans is a 20,000 capacity music bowl, which would be Perth’s biggest outdoor amphitheatre, permanently set up to host world-class live music, art and cultural festivals.

A re-elected Cook Labor Government says works would commence in 2025-26, with the aim of having the street circuit complete in 2027 and available for use during the 2027 Supercars season.

“This new family-friendly entertainment precinct will be a game-changer for Perth – one that will solidify our city’s growing reputation as a major events capital,” Premier Roger Cook said.

“Living in Kwinana, I know how big our motorsports community is in WA and the Perth Street Circuit will attract motorsport events our city has never seen before.

“But our bold new vision for Burswood doesn’t stop there - the new precinct will be a vibrant entertainment hub that will host major music and other cultural events that will draw audiences and families from a broad range of tastes and backgrounds all year round.

“It will take the Burswood Park precinct to a whole new level and ensure the area is a hive of activity throughout the year - from the roar of V8s to our most exciting musical acts.

“This is another example of how only WA Labor is ensuring Perth is an evolving and exciting place to live – and further proof we are diversifying our economy so we can set up our State for the future.”

Supercars CEO Shane Howard said: “We at Supercars are absolutely thrilled at the prospect of racing on the streets of Perth, and applaud the work from the Western Australia Government thus far as this project has progressed.

“A street race at the Burswood Park precinct would instantly become a marquee event on the Supercars calendar and offer amazing on and off-track entertainment that truly has something for everyone.

“To hold an event in such a stunning and central location would brilliantly showcase the beautiful city of Perth both to racegoers and broadcast audiences around the world.

“This project has energised stakeholders and supporters from every corner of our Championship, and we look forward to working closely with the Western Australia Government to bring this event to reality.”

Supercars Chief Operating Officer Tim Watsford said: “We are very excited to announce the next step in bringing the Perth Street Circuit at Burswood Park to life.

"The Burswood Park precinct is set to be a world-class entertainment and sporting venue and would be an incredible addition to both Australian motorsport and Perth’s outstanding events offering.

“The Perth street race will have pride of place as one of the premier events on the Supercars calendar, right up with the likes of the Gold Coast 500, Bathurst 1000, and others, and will thrill fans with heart pumping action on and off the track.

“We have a very ambitious vision for racing at Burswood Park. We extend our thanks Premier Cook, Deputy Premier Saffioti, and the Western Australian Government for their ongoing support of that vision, and look forward to continue working together to see the project through.”

Supercars will return to Perth at CARCO.com.au Raceway on June 6-8. Tickets for the event, as well as the majority of the all 2025 events, are on sale now.
