Ryan Wood to race Porsche at Sepang 12 Hours
Wood joins Matt Payne on track at this weekend's event
Kiwi duo will race at Melbourne SuperSprint on March 21-24
Ryan Wood will join countryman Matt Payne at this weekend’s Sepang 12 Hours, with the Walkinshaw Andretti United rookie returning to the seat of a Porsche.
Wood, 20, will race for EBM Giga Racing with Adrian Henry D’Silva and 2022 Porsche Sprint Trophy Thailand champion Tanart Sathienthirakul.
The Kiwi is no stranger to Porsches, having finished runner-up in the 2022 Porsche Sprint Challenge Australia before opting to chase Supercars.
Wood will race against Supercars rivals and friend Payne, who will race with Brenton and Stephen Grove in a Mercedes-AMG.
“I’m excited to partner up again with the EBM Giga Racing crew at the Sepang 12 Hours,” Wood said.
"I’m looking forward to racing with Adrian and Tanart and hopefully we can pick up a strong result. It’s my first time racing in the Porsche 911 GT3 R (991.2) and my debut at Sepang, so I’m up for the challenge."
The Sepang race offers yet more miles for the rising stars ahead of the next round of the 2024 Repco Supercars Championship in Melbourne.
Wood completed a rookie test day at The Bend Motorsport Park on Tuesday alongside fellow rookie, Blanchard Racing Team young gun Aaron Love.
Payne, meanwhile, turned in a rookie test day of his own with Penrite Racing at Winton Motor Raceway last week.
WAU has backed Wood to fire in Melbourne, after the New Zealander failed to finish both races at the season-opening Thrifty Bathurst 500.
Wood and Payne will continue their 2024 Supercars campaigns at the MSS Security Melbourne SuperSprint on March 21-24.
