Hector Aims For Strong Result

Gulf Western Oil V8 Supercar driver Michael Hector heads to the Coates Hire Ipswich 360 – the fourth event for the 2013 Dunlop Series – this weekend at Queensland Raceway full of confidence.

Having had a strong showing in his first outing with Matt Stone Racing in Townsville, the Newcastle-based driver has also benefited from a full test day with MSR and has settled into the team well.

After a weekend in Townsville that saw the Gulf Western Oil Falcon in the thick of the action, Hector is aiming to continue his move up the grid with his sights set firmly on qualifying and racing inside the top 15 at QR. Another bumper field has entered the fourth round of the Dunlop Series, the largest ever at the tight and demanding Queensland ‘paperclip’ track.

It is the home track for Matt Stone Racing and Hector enjoyed another solid day last week as he and the cars of Ash Walsh and George Miedecke all tested together. The benefits to Hector and his comfort and driving of the ex-Scott McLaughlin Fujitsu Falcon run by the Stone Brothers in 2012, have helped enormously in the short time he has been with the team.

“This is a new level of professionalism for me and I am learning every time I take to the track,” Hector said.

“I was running at QR with Ash and George, as well as sharing the track with Erebus, DJR and Triple Eight’s Lowndes and Whincup.

“It was a great benefit watching how these guys attacked the track from inside my car. The feedback demanded by the engineers and the effort they put into the data is fantastic.

“I really believe we can improve at each of the remaining rounds and get the Gulf Western Falcon further up the point score. This weekend should be a ripper!”

Hector currently sits in 25th position in the 2013 Dunlop Series Championship.

At the Coates Hire Ipswich 360 this weekend, there will be practice, qualifying and three races for the Dunlop Series.
