  • Tickford, DJR penalised following post-race protest

  • Teams fined, docked points over pit lane operational breach

  • No change to race results, Cam Waters remains winner

Tickford Racing and Dick Johnson Racing have been fined and docked teams' championship points following a protest lodged after Saturday's race in Surfers Paradise.

In the first race of the Boost Mobile Gold Coast 500, Cam Waters led Thomas Randle in a Tickford Racing one-two ahead of Triple Eight driver Broc Feeney.

Waters finished 9.4s clear of Randle, with Feeney passing Penrite Racing driver Matt Payne for third in the final stint.

Motorsport Australia later confirmed protests were received from Grove Racing over alleged pit lane operational breaches over Waters, Randle and Will Davison's cars.

A hearing was later held after the race and has now concluded, with stewards handing down fines and points penalties to both Ford teams. The race result remains unchanged.

In a Motorsport Australia statement, both Walkinshaw Andretti United cars and Anton De Pasquale's entry are also being investigated.

UPDATE: Both WAU entries and the #11 Shell V-Power Mustang have received identical sanctions, with DJR now dropping from fourth to fifth in the teams standings as a result.

The statement reads:

Motorsport Australia received a protest from Grove Racing following Race 21 at the Boost Mobile Gold Coast 500.

A Stewards’ Hearing was held on Saturday evening at 6.45pm.

The matter heard involved Cars 55, 6 and 17 which were alleged to have committed pit lane operational breaches. These breaches involved incorrect wheel placement during the relevant pit stops. Wheels are required to be placed between the axle centre lines of the car during a pitstop and it was found that these teams did not comply. (As per Rule D11.1.3.3 a) )

The Stewards upheld the protest and issued a monetary penalty of $1500 and 30 Teams’ Championship Points penalty to each of Cars 55, 6 and 17.

A full Stewards’ decision will be made available on Sunday.

Motorsport Australia and Supercars are also investigating Cars 2, 25 and 11 for possible similar breaches after a referral from Supercars with an update to follow on Sunday.

On track action at the Boost Mobile Gold Coast 500 continues on Sunday with Boost Mobile Qualifying at 10:10am local time/11:10am AEDT. Tickets for the event are on sale now.
