Jack Le Brocq an opening lap casualty in wild Race 5
Ryan Wood received a drive through penalty for his role in crash
Opening two races in Melbourne have featured plenty of contact
A frustrated Jack Le Brocq has called out the hard racing seen so far this weekend at the MSS Security Melbourne SuperSprint after a Lap 1 exit from Race 5 of 2025 season.
Le Brocq was one of the strongest qualifiers in yesterday's back-to-back Boost Mobile Qualifying sessions, qualifying fourth for Race 4 yesterday and eighth for this afternoon.
Le Brocq was running fourth yesterday when contact with Brodie Kostecki at Turn 4 sent the Tyrepower Camaro tumbling down to an eventual finish of 19th.
However worse was to come today, as the two-time race winner found himself locked in combat with Ryan Wood on the opening lap.
The Walkinshaw Andretti United driver, who starred with an aggressive drive from 17th to fifth yesterday, made a bold lunge at Turn 5, which resulted in contact.
Le Brocq tagged the outside wall, ripping the rear wing off, before careening across the track and making heavy contact with the inside tyre wall, sending the back half of the field scattering in avoidance.
Wood was slapped with a drive through penalty for his troubles, the first penalty handed out all weekend, however Le Brocq was still critical of the racing he'd been involved in across the opening two races this weekend.
"It's just a whole bunch of craziness, I don't know what's going on this weekend," said a frustrated Le Brocq.
"I've seen some pretty average stuff yesterday in replays, and not one penalty was given out, I suppose finally Woody was given one just then for what happened, I haven't seen it from the outside.
"It seemed like he bombed it in there a bit hot, and unfortunately broken a race car with only two days to prep for New Zealand.
"It's frustrating, I don't know what's going on at the moment, I feel like we're DVS. I think we need to have a good hard look at ourselves and clean up our act."
Whilst Le Brocq has been frustrated by the driving standards this weekend, he also admits that he doesn't know what the answer is to find the right balance with driver standards in 2025.
"I'm all for a bit of hard racing, but when we're writing cars off like that it gets pretty silly. The reins have been let loose a little bit the last couple of rounds, and I'm all for seeing some good hard racing, but there's a bit of silliness going on.
"I don't know the answer to it, we all want to see everyone out there having a go and creating some good entertainment, but I don't know the answer."
Cars will return to the track on Saturday morning for dual Boost Mobile Qualifying sessions from 9:05am local time, with Race 6 to commence at 5:40pm.
