Will Brown explains Triple Eight team orders in Race 4
Brown beaten to victory by teammate Broc Feeney on Thursday
Drivers had pre-race pact over race start
Reigning Supercars champion Will Brown has revealed that a pre-race pact ultimately decided the winner of the opening race at Albert Park.
Brown finished second behind Triple Eight Race Engineering driver Broc Feeney in Race 4, with Matt Stone Racing driver Cameron Hill third on Thursday.
Feeney and Brown started first and second, with the former leading the field though Turn 1. Feeney initially drove away from Brown, who closed up late in the race.
The win fell the way of Feeney, but had Brown won the start, it would have been a different story, as revealed by the reigning champ after the race.
“I guess it’s one of those things, in our team we always make sure that there is always some sort of team orders,” Brown said in the press conference.
“At the end of the day, our plan is to try and finish one-two for the team. The team doesn’t care who finishes one-two, if it’s me if I got the start, if it’s Broc… it’s making sure we manage the race.”
While he got close to Feeney, Brown admitted he wouldn't have had enough to pass his teammate anyway, with Feeney taking Chevrolet’s first win of the 2025 season.
However, Brown insisted that had it been a different driver, he would’ve had a crack.
“At the end of day as well, if he wasn’t my teammate I think Broc would have got going,” he said.
“I don’t think I was the faster car than him and could have passed him. He was extremely fast out there… if it’s not my teammate, you’re having a crack at anyone to win a race.
“Broc was the fastest car out there as he showed in both qualifying sessions and I think he could have pulled away if he wanted to.”
Cam Waters will take a reduced 45-point lead over Brown into Friday, with Feeney third. Supercars will return to the track on Friday for the 19-lap Race 5 at 2:50pm local time.
