The Repco Supercars Championship field has been welcomed to Larrakia Nation ahead of this weekend's Merlin Darwin Triple Crown.

Supercars drivers were welcomed by Larrakia Traditional Owner Richard Fejo and took part in a traditional smoking ceremony held at the Darwin Waterfront Precinct on Thursday.

The ceremony was followed by the first off-site driver signing session of the season alongside the Australian Superbikes field.

The Larrakia people are the traditional owners of the Darwin region, with their country running from Cox Peninsula in the west to Gunn Point in the north, Adelaide River in the east and down to the Manton Dam area southwards.

The vibrant Aboriginal nation of more than 2000 people, Larrakia are broadly recognised for their strengths in performance, music and art.

“It is part of our culture to embrace our community; the community is the centre to our wellbeing,” Fejo said.
