Will Davison to hit 250 Supercars rounds in Darwin
Davison, James Courtney two of nine in '250 club'
Four drivers have won races after passing 250 rounds
Will Davison is proud to hit the 250-round mark in Supercars, but will only be content if he makes it a "bloody good one."
Shell V-Power Racing Team veteran Davison and Ford rival James Courtney will both clock up 250 Supercars rounds at the upcoming betr Darwin Triple Crown, becoming the eighth and ninth drivers to do so.
The last driver to hit 250 rounds was Mark Winterbottom in 2021, following Craig Lowndes (2015), Russell Ingall (2015), Garth Tander (2016), Jason Bright (2017), Rick Kelly (2019) and Jamie Whincup (2021).
Only Lowndes, Tander, Whincup and Winterbottom have returned to victory lane after celebrating 250 rounds.
While Courtney is still searching for his first win since 2016, Davison has been a podium contender for much of his second stint with Dick Johnson Racing, winning three races, claiming 26 podiums and 11 poles since 2021.
When asked about his forthcoming milestone, Davison said he felt "privileged" yet determined to make it count, with the two-time Bathurst winner also eyeing his first Darwin victory.
“You go through the 500, the 550, now the 250 rounds — they're all nice milestones,” Davison told Supercars.com.
“But really at this stage now, they're all just saying I've been around a while! Someone said to me the other day, only seven people have done 250 events.
“I just want to make sure it's a bloody good one. I only want to be out on track if I'm doing good things. That's my focus.
“Obviously it's a privileged position to be in the series for so long. It's an amazing journey that I'm still on.
“But we're still going there with very lofty plans and pressure on ourselves to execute. I'm not there just on easy street now trying to pick up a top 10.”
Davison has the most Darwin podiums (seven) without a win at Hidden Valley Raceway, but despite missing out, has proven one of the strongest drivers at the circuit since re-joining DJR in 2021.
Davison has five podiums, four poles and an average grid position of 3.25 in his last eight starts in Darwin, where he also celebrated 500 races in 2022.
While a big fan of the circuit, Davison reiterated the upcoming event was merely another opportunity to get a result.
"I love Darwin. I always enjoy going there. It's a special, special place,” said Davison, who is just 55 points behind fourth-placed Cam Waters.
“But as I said, really, the only important thing is that we execute a good weekend."
Payne is 391 points behind leader Brown heading to the betr Darwin Triple Crown on June 14-16. Tickets for the event are on sale now. International viewers can follow all the action on Superview.
