Best denies Feeney in Townsville Super2 finale

Zak Best has denied Broc Feeney a fourth consecutive Dunlop Super2 Series win in Townsville in an absorbing Race 2 battle.

Best drove from a first-career ARMOR ALL Pole Position to a maiden victory on Sunday.

The Tickford Racing driver needed to muster all the courage he had to resist Feeney, who put Best under extreme pressure in the 21-lap race.

Best took the chequered flag just over a second ahead of Feeney, who took home overall round honours.

Best and Feeney shared the front row, but both had to defend from an aggressive Jayden Ojeda.

The trio ran line astern through the fast Turn 1 sweeper, with Ojeda firing his MW Motorsport entry down the inside.

Ojeda ran long but split the front-row starters, with Best leading to Turn 3.

Feeney regained second when Ojeda slid wide at Turn 2, and attempted a pass for the lead on Best on lap 3.

However, Feeney was unable to make the move stick, and Best held firm in the lead.

The duo were again locked in combat at Turn 11, with Best holding the ideal line to the final corner.

The Tickford driver tried to build a gap, and led by over a second with 10 laps remaining.

However, Feeney reeled Best in, before both battled to get around Turn 2 on lap 17.

Best again held on, and went on to claim a maiden development series win by 1.06s.

"It's been a long time coming," an emotional Best said.

"It's just a surreal feeling, really, to convert the pole into a win.

"We did it, Mum, Dad... great job."

Feeney, the Saturday winner, claimed round honours and will leave North Queensland with a 51-point margin.

Ojeda was third for the race and the round, with Angelo Mouzouris inheriting fourth following a late mechanical drama for Jordan Boys.

Jack Perkins finished fifth, one position ahead of Eggleston Motorsport team-mate Matt McLean, who was again recorded as the Lets Go Motorhomes Rookie of the Round.

Aaron Seton, Josh Fife, Matt Chahda and Declan Fraser rounded out the top 10.

Blake Fardell claimed Super3 class honours in 15th outright after Nash Morris was slapped with a 15-second time penalty following an incident with Jack Sipp at Turn 10 on Lap 8.
