Dunlop Series expands vehicle eligibility for 2025
Supercars expands eligibility of cars for 2025 Super2 Series season
Ford Falcon FG X, Holden VF Commodore, Nissan Altima added to cars eligible
Supercars has expanded the eligibility criteria for cars entering the Dunlop Series in 2025, enabling a further three Car of the Future era models to compete in the championship’s premier development series.
The Ford Falcon FG X, Holden VF Commodore, and Nissan Altima will be eligible for Super2 from next year, joining the Gen2 Ford Mustang and Holden ZB Commodore on the Super2 grid.
The three added models have competed in the Super3 Series since 2023, a rung lower on the Supercars development ladder.
Since 2020, the Dunlop Super2 and Super3 Series’ competed on track at the same time, often with Super3 cars mixing it up with the best in Super2.
From 2025, all of the aforementioned cars will compete in the Dunlop Super2 Series. The Super3 Series will not be held.
The updated regulations have been rolled out with an interest in increased participation, grid diversity, and heightened competition across the series, supporting the continued growth and development of Supercars' next generation of racing talent.
Supercars General Manager of Motorsport Tim Edwards believes the new structure will provide increased opportunity for teams and young drivers, and maintain the Super2 Series’ signature of competitive and unpredictable racing.
“We’re pleased to expand the eligibility requirements of the Dunlop Series from 2025, which we believe will create greater opportunity for teams and aspiring drivers looking to compete,” Edwards said.
“With five car models now eligible, we’re expecting to see continued strength in car counts and car diversity on-track, while still delivering the robust, wheel-to-wheel racing that fans love and the Dunlop Series is known for.
Super3 drivers have routinely impressed amongst the Super2 field in recent years, despite the distinction in class.
In 2024, champion Cody Burcher and Thomas Maxwell have often raced well within the top 10 of the Dunlop Series races, providing confidence that their cars will add valuable competition to the Super2 field in 2025.
“In recent years we have seen several instances of drivers in Super3 more than holding their own against Super2 competitors,” Edwards added.
“It makes sense for us to bring all of these cars under one banner from the 2025 season and allow those teams and drivers to compete in Super2. We are confident it will only add to the on-track competition and challenge to win the Super2 Series title.”
The 2025 Dunlop Super2 Series will host six race events, racing on the support card at Repco Supercars Championship events in Sydney, Tasmania, Townsville, Ipswich, Bathurst, and Adelaide, starting with the Sydney 500 in February.
The 2024 Dunlop Super2 Series will go down to the wire next weekend at the VAILO Adelaide 500. Walkinshaw Andretti United leads the championship by 39 points from Aaron Cameron, with 2023 champion Kai Allen just 43 points from the title.
