  • Broc Feeney declares "there's still a long way to go" in title fight

  • Rising star has more wins than any other driver through seven rounds

  • Feeney has slipped to 153 points adrift of Will Brown

Broc Feeney says he's still a 2024 title contender, with the Triple Eight driver declaring “there's still a long way to go” in this year’s championship hunt.

Feeney, 21, has more wins than any other driver through seven rounds in the 2024 Repco Supercars Championship.

However, when he’s not winning, he is battling for consistency, with teammate and championship leader Will Brown 10-1 in the head-to-head when Feeney hasn’t won.

Feeney won three of the first five races and held a slender lead over Brown, but has slipped to 153 points adrift with three podiums in the last seven starts, and lost second in the standings to Chaz Mostert.

He also enters the upcoming NED Whisky Tasmania SuperSprint without a podium since his Darwin sweep in June, with finishes of seventh, seventh (Townsville), ninth and 11th (Sydney).

"The times are so tight. The results are so tight. Chaz has been doing really strong the last couple, so he's jumped me in the spot,” Feeney told Supercars.com at the test day on Tuesday.

"But, there's still a long way to go. I think it's only about 150 points across the top three. So, for me, I'm still well and truly riding this championship.

"I'm not sure if people are writing me off or anything, but there's still a long way to go.”

Feeney has quickly put his focus on the next round in Tasmania, where he won a race last year, and claimed his maiden Supercars podium in 2022.

However, the Queenslander is wary of missing out in qualifying in Tasmania, which typically plays host to the tightest margins in qualifying of the season.

Triple Eight is riding off finding gains from a test day on Tuesday, with team boss Jamie Whincup hopeful of finding gains.

"I suppose it's been a happy hunting ground for myself the last couple of years and a strong track for Triple Eight in the past,” Feeney said of Symmons Plains.

“Got my first ever podium in a Supercar there, which was pretty cool. And then to back it up with a win and another podium last year was awesome. So obviously I've got good confidence going back.

“[Tasmania] has been a strong one for us in the past. Hopefully get a couple of wins and then obviously head back to Sandown where we had a good result last year.

“The thing in Gen3, the times have been so close. And you see it at tracks like Perth and Darwin. And Tassie is going to be the closest to the lot. I mean, half a tenth is probably five or six spots. So, it's massive."

The 2024 Repco Supercars Championship will resume at the NED Whisky Tasmania SuperSprint on August 16-18. Tickets for the event are on sale now.

Live coverage can be found on Foxtel, with live streaming available on Kayo. Highlights will be shown on the Seven Network and 7plus. International viewers can follow all the action on Superview.
