Brodie Kostecki managed to defeat both Triple Eight cars in Bathurst and the Gold Coast, and now the reigning champion has a chance to ride shotgun in one of them.

Kostecki, who led home Will Brown and Broc Feeney in Sunday’s Boost Mobile Gold Coast 500, cheekily bought a Triple Eight hot lap at a charity auction last week.

The Erebus Motorsport driver was one of over 360 attendees at the inaugural PIRTEK Legends night, which raised more than $200,000 for Motorsport Ministries.

The event, created to raise funds and awareness for the Motorsport Ministries, also paid tribute to Australian motorsport legend Dick Johnson.

It was future Dick Johnson Racing driver Kostecki who got one of the biggest cheers of the night, after he successfully won a Triple Eight hot lap with a bid of $3500. Kostecki also donated his eventual race-winning helmet at the auction, with the special helmet sold for $13,500.

The 26-year-old’s hot lap bid follows a similar effort from Brown, who last year bought a ride alongside Ford rival Cam Waters in Newcastle.

When asked on the broadcast about the hot lap, Kostecki said: “I sure did, I would like to go for a ride and see what front spring they’ve got.

“I'm not really too sure [which driver will steer the car], hopefully I get to choose. It was fantastic, we had an auction on Friday night for Motorsport Ministries, raise a bit of money for those guys.

“I thought why not go for a hot lap, and see what their car drives like, and give George [Commins, Race Engineer] some more feedback.”

Speaking on Supercars.com’s Schick Cool Down Lap podcast after the race, Kostecki added: “It was great to be a part of that and raise over $200,000 for them.

"Paid three-and-a-half grand for a hot lap and it all goes to charity, of course. So, well worth it in my book.”

When asked if they will let him change gears, Kostecki joked: "I don't know. I'll try to."

Brown and Feeney will fight for the 2024 Repco Supercars Championship at the VAILO Adelaide 500 from November 14-17. Tickets for the event are on sale now.
