Cam Waters “had a blast” on his NASCAR debut
Waters crashed out, but ran as high as 11th
Tickford star will race in New Zealand on April 19-21
Supercars star Cam Waters “had a blast” on his NASCAR debut in Martinsville, despite crashing out in the final part of the race.
The Tickford Racing driver made his NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series debut on Saturday morning (AEST) with ThorSport Racing.
Waters crashed out of the race 25 laps from home, but ran as high as 11th during the 200-lapper at the half-mile circuit.
After being caught up in an incident, Waters’ night ended with 25 laps to go after rear-ending Jake Garcia.
Despite the result, with both incidents not of his own doing, Waters was upbeat about his performance.
“What a blast, I had a ball out there,” the 29-year-old said.
“The racing is so intense, it’s just relentless. You never stop looking for a gap while defending position.
“Yeah, we ended up out of the race within sight of the finish, which is a real shame for the whole team, but I had nowhere to go both times and ended getting turned around by hits from behind.
“It was absolutely wild, but I learnt so much today and I can’t wipe the smile off my face right now.
“I’m definitely keen to do more of this where my Supercars schedule permits.”
Waters will resume his 2024 Repco Supercars Championship campaign in New Zealand on April 19-21. International fans can watch the event on SuperView.
