Erebus Motorsport has confirmed that its 2017 Bathurst 1000 winner David Reynolds has parted ways with the team.

In 2019, Reynolds signed a 10-year “lifetime” deal to stay with the Melbourne outfit but this evening it was confirmed that he will not continue with the squad.

In a statement issued this evening, the team said:

“Erebus Motorsport regrets to advise that former Bathurst-winner David Reynolds will not continue with the team in 2021.

“After signing a ten-year contract in late-2019, the current #9 driver will amicably part ways with the Melbourne-based squad.”

Team Owner Betty Klimenko said it was unfortunate that both parties were unable to continue together but wished Reynolds all the best in securing his future.

“David has been a significant part of our team since we moved to Melbourne in 2016,” she said.

“We have shared a lot of success together including winning the 2017 Bathurst 1000 and we thank David for all his efforts.

“However, unfortunately David has decided that his future lies elsewhere, and we do not wish to stop him taking another path.

“David needs to do what is best for him and we need to do what is best for our team’s future and long-term stability.

“Unfortunately, we were unable to come to an agreement and we have had to go our separate ways.

“We wish David and his new family all the best for their future.”

Reynolds said it was a tough decision to leave Erebus after helping the rising team for the past five years since their transition from Mercedes.

“My preference has been to stay at Erebus but unfortunately it is time for me to move on,” Reynolds said.

“I have really enjoyed my time with the team and leaving has been a very difficult decision to make.

“The team are a fantastic bunch of people that I’ve built really strong relationships with over the past five years and I am proud of what we have been able to achieve together.”

The team said in the statement it will announce their 2021 driver line-up in the coming days.
