Half of the field which will tackle Pukekohe's final race can win the Jason Richards Memorial Trophy.
The trophy, named after the late Richards, will be awarded to the highest point-scorer of the weekend.
Shane van Gisbergen rose to the top of the standings with his Race 28 win.
Van Gisbergen will carry a four-point lead over Will Davison into Sunday's finale.
Van Gisbergen's mission to win the trophy for a third time is made difficult by a lowly grid position for Race 29.
The hometown hero will launch from eighth; conversely, Davison is in the box seat from pole position.
Van Gisbergen hung Davison out wide after the restart, all but consigning Davison to fourth.
That move ultimately saw the trophy standings swing in van Gisbergen's favour.
Cam Waters, who finished third in both races, is 12 points behind van Gisbergen.
Chaz Mostert, meanwhile, is level on 172 points with Waters following his Race 28 podium.
A driver can take home a maximum 105 points; 100 points for victory, and five fastest lap bonus points.
Van Gisbergen is a two-time winner of the trophy, having taken the honour the 2016 and 2019.
The points leader made clear of his ambition to win the trophy, given his Kiwi ties to Richards.
"When I first joined the series, he was one of the first guys to come and say hello," van Gisbergen said of Richards.
"On track he was a fierce but fair competitor. He’s well remembered in the Supercars community.
"To race in his honour, it’s one of the best trophies you can get in our sport."
The curtain will fall on Supercars at Pukekohe with Race 29 at 4:10pm local time/2:10pm AEST.
