New Supercars champion Will Brown recognised in prestigious list
Brown ranked 22nd in Autosport's Top 50 of 2024 drivers list
Formula One champion Max Verstappen tops list, Scott McLaughlin fifth
New Supercars champion Will Brown has been recognised in Autosport’s Top 50 of 2024 list, which ranks the top 50 drivers in world motorsport.
Each year, leading motorsport publication Autosport ranks its top 50 performers for the motorsport season, with Formula One world champion Max Verstappen topping the list for a third straight year.
Brown, who won the 2024 Repco Supercars Championship off the back of 19 podiums in 24 starts, was ranked 22nd on the list, marking his first entry in an Autosport Top 50.
Autosport hailed Brown as a driver who "kept mistakes to a minimum," the entry adding: "To be as consistent as he has been in 2024, in a field in which all 24 drivers have such quality hardware, is testament to what separated Brown from the other title hopefuls."
Three-time Supercars champion turned IndyCar star Scott McLaughlin, meanwhile, was ranked fifth in 2024, behind F1 trio Verstappen, Charles Leclerc, Lando Norris and IndyCar champion Alex Palou.
McLaughlin was recognised for another breakout year in IndyCar, which featured a record-breaking run to pole position for the Indianapolis 500.
F1 driver Carlos Sainz, Formula E champion Pascal Wehrlein, World Endurance Champion Kevin Estre, Super GT and Super Formula champion Sho Tsuboi, and World Rally Champion Thierry Neuville rounded out the top 10.
Brown was sandwiched between F1 drivers Pierre Gasly and Nico Hulkenberg, and was ranked ahead of the likes of Aussie IndyCar driver Will Power, seven-time F1 champion Lewis Hamilton, and 2024 DTM champion Mirko Bortolotti.
Last year, Supercars title contenders Shane van Gisbergen and Brodie Kostecki were ranked 20th and 28th respectively, with now NASCAR star van Gisbergen recognised for a sixth time.
Van Gisbergen was ranked 16th in his title-winning year of 2021, before jumping to 10th after romping to the 2022 championship with a record 21 race victories.
McLaughlin, meanwhile, was recognised each time he won the Supercars Championship, being ranked 38th in 2018, 14th in 2019 and 13th in 2020.
Brown will commence his championship defence in Sydney on February 21-23. Tickets are on sale now.
