Thomas Randle and Will Davison have both reacted to their stunning battle for the VAILO Adelaide 500 podium with an ailing Chaz Mostert, who somehow finished second after being taken out by Broc Feeney.

On lap 62, Feeney sent Mostert's Walkinshaw Andretti United Ford into the Turn 6 barriers. Feeney scampered away to a big lead as Mostert extracted his car from the barriers, albeit with rear damage.

While Feeney's race was nullified by 30 seconds of penalties, Mostert limped home and was passed for the effective lead by champion-elect Will Brown with 12 laps to go.

Randle and Davison caught and challenged Mostert, who seemed without defence in the closing laps.

Davison tried and failed, with Randle getting by and pushing Mostert to the line. At the finish. Mostert, Randle, Davison and Nick Percat were covered by just 1.1 seconds.

It was a third podium of 2024 for Randle, and a crucial one in the context of his championship campaign.

"My engineer [Chris] Stuckey said that Feeney had the 30-second penalty, I knew Chaz was limping," said Tickford Racing driver Randle, who sealed fifth in the championship with the result.

"Effective we were P4 there. And then I thought I've got to get either Will or Will is going to get Chaz, but Chaz put up a great fight. I did a bit of switch back move on Will at the hairpin and just defended for my life after that.

"Pretty stoked to get a podium, P5 in the championship."

It was a sensational performance by Shell V-Power Racing Team veteran Davison, who was eighth after the first lap, and picked up damage early. The two-time Bathurst winner ended the year ninth overall.

Davison, however, was disappointed he couldn't add to his Taupō podium, which remained his sole trophy of the 2024 season.

"I copped a lot of damage to my car early on. I feel like I drove one of the better races I can remember in a while," Davison said.

"To then obviously get to the last few laps, which I'm sure was very exciting to watch but to get caught up with Chaz, who had a lot of damage; he made a move and got into second.

"It's pretty exciting through Turn 8 there, but I couldn't quite make it stick, and then to drop off the podium with only two laps to go when it was nearly set in stone is a pretty hard one to take."
