The Shell V-Power Racing Team has clarified its involvement in the newly announced Bathurst wildcard.
It was confirmed Friday that Anderson Motorsport will race a Ford Mustang at this year’s Repco Bathurst 1000.
Team owner Michael Anderson has purchased a Dick Johnson Racing Mustang for the 2022 Great Race.
DJR runs main game entries for Anton De Pasquale and Will Davison, who are second and fourth overall.
In a statement, DJR confirmed Anderson has purchased one of its Mustangs.
The wildcard is not a third DJR entry; rather, it is a Anderson Motorsport entry with "minimal technical support" from DJR.
"The Shell V-Power Racing Team and Dick Johnson Racing (DJR) wish to clarify reports made today regarding the Anderson Motorsport Repco Bathurst 1000 wildcard entry," the statement reads.
"The team can confirm that Anderson Motorsport has purchased a DJR Mustang that will be raced by Anderson Motorsport with minimal technical support from DJR over the event before racing in the Super2/3 Series field in 2023 as the Gen2 model cars retire from current Supercar racing.
"The DJR team’s efforts are focused on cars 11 & 17 for the Great Race campaign and the continued development of the 2023 Gen3 Ford Mustang.
"The team wishes the Anderson Motorsport Team the best of luck for their Repco Bathurst 1000 campaign."
The Anderson Motorsport wildcard takes the grid to 28 cars for this year’s race should Triple Eight again field a car.
Erebus Motorsport has already confirmed it will campaign a Boost Mobile-backed Commodore for Greg Murphy and Richie Stanaway.
Triple Eight last year campaigned a wildcard for Broc Feeney and Russell Ingall.
This year’s Repco Bathurst 1000 will be held on October 6-9.
The season will resume at the Merlin Darwin Triple Crown on June 17-19. Purchase your tickets now.
