Richie Stanaway's Race 2 came to an early end after engine let go
  • Richie Stanaway an early retirement after engine failure on Lap 8

  • Stanaway and PremiAir uncertain as to the cause of the failure

  • Second time this week that a PremiAir Camaro has caught fire

PreimAir Racing recruit Richie Stanaway has recounted his early end to Race 2 of the 2025 Repco Supercars Championship after a fiery engine failure in the early stages of the 200km race.

Stanaway was spotted with smoke billowing from the rear of the #62 Camaro at Turn 2 on Lap 8, with the 2023 Bathurst winner pulling over with flames visible from underneath the front bumper.

It's the second time this week that a PremiAir car has caught fire, after James Golding pulled up in pit lane during the Destination NSW Sydney Test Day following a fuel fitting failure.

Upon his return to the PremiAir garage, Stanaway was uncertain as to what the cause of the engine failure was, but did say it was a sudden failure.

"Not exactly, still not quite sure what happened," said Stanaway when asked if he knew the cause.

"Just the engine let go into Turn 1, so we'll have to look into it, there was a lot of oil out of the bottom of the engine.

"It's a disappointing start to the championship, but hopefully we can bounce back tomorrow."

It continues a difficult start to the season for PremiAir, after Stanaway finished 23rd behind teammate Golding in Race 1 last night.
