The inaugural ITM Taupō Super400, held in April 2024, has been heralded as a resounding success by Government today in New Zealand.

With a sold-out crowd of 67,411 passionate spectators and significant economic returns, the ITM Taupō Super400 was highlighted today at the New Zealand Events Association Conference (NZEAC) alongside the Government's new Major Events Strategy.

Economic Development Minister Hon Melissa Lee and MBIE’s Major Events Manager Kylie Hawker-Green both showcased Supercars debut in Taupō as a prime example of how major events can deliver positive regional and national economic outcomes.

Kylie Hawker-Green emphasized the broader impact of the ITM Taupō Super400 during her presentation: “This year’s ITM Taupō Super400 is an excellent example of the national economic contribution major events can make to New Zealand, as well as the economic impact they can have for host regions.”

With an investment of $2 million from the Major Events Fund, the Supercars event achieved a cost-benefit ratio of 1.14, bringing in $1.14 for every dollar invested.

The event attracted over 3,000 international visitors who spent approximately $5.8 million and stayed for 22,000 individual nights.

The inaugural Taupō event also significantly boosted New Zealand’s global presence, with the race being broadcast to 3.9 million people and its social media content reaching an audience of 13.5 million.

The return of the ITM Taupō Super400 in 2025, scheduled for April 11-13, coincides with the start of the New Zealand school holidays, and another large turnout.

The 2024 event not only delivered high-octane racing but also brought the community together in new ways, with the first-ever Track to Town event that saw all 24 Repco Supercars Championship cars drive from Taupō International Motorsport Park to Taupō’s Lakefront Reserve, Tapuaeharuru.
