  • Broc Feeney not thinking about championship at Bathurst

  • Feeney 222 points behind teammate Will Brown

  • Brown's 189-point lead over Chaz Mostert the biggest of the season

Now 222 points off the pace, Broc Feeney has vowed to "go all out for a win” at Mount Panorama next month.

Feeney, who is racing at Monza this weekend, finished second to teammate Will Brown at last weekend’s Penrite Oil Sandown 500, with the latter 189 points ahead of Chaz Mostert.

With three rounds and 900 points left to win, the championship is Brown’s to lose, leaving Mostert and Feeney chasing the long-time leader.

In the last three rounds, Feeney has ceded 144 points to Brown, with Mostert — who was 63 points down after the Tasmania opener — stung by a seventh place finish at Sandown.

With Bathurst on the horizon, Feeney — who saw the 2023 race slip through his fingers due to mechanical heartbreak — is going to go for broke at the Mountain.

“Still another 300 points at Bathurst and a lot more for the rest of the year,” said Feeney, who will drive a Gen2 Commodore and Gen3 Camaro at One Raceway before the Great Race weekend.

"So, still plenty to play for, we'll just be going to Bathurst and trying to win that. I'm not too worried about the championship at Bathurst.

"You have to go all out for a win and see what happens.”

In Feeney’s corner is four-time Bathurst winner Jamie Whincup, who despite being part of his team’s Sandown one-two finish, wasn’t getting carried away about his team’s enduro form heading to Bathurst.

Triple Eight has won four of the last six Bathurst 1000s, and the last four Sandown 500s, including last week’s win for Brown and Scott Pye.

Whincup, however, has his own streak to end; the Supercars Hall of Famer hasn't won a Bathurst 1000 since 2012. Remarkably, he hasn't claimed a Bathurst podium since 2013.

“You never know, but it’s a serious competition,” Whincup said.

“Everyone's going absolutely flat-chat to try and get on the podium. Unfortunately there’s only three spots.

“No doubt we’re all going to go to Bathurst and it’s going to be absolutely hectic for six-and-a-half hours.

“There was a little bit of weather this weekend, thankfully today was nice and dry, but who knows what’s going to happen at Bathurst. We’ve had some crazy events up there.”
