First laps for Holden, Toyota SuperUtes

The Holden Colorado and Toyota Hilux SuperUtes have turned their first laps this morning as part of parity testing for the inaugural season.

Supercars’ technical team is at Queensland Raceway conducting parity evaluations between the Holden, Toyota, Ford Ranger, Mazda BT-50 and Mitsubishi Triton.

Test duties are being shared between Supercars’ Driving Standards Advisor Craig Baird, experienced Supercars co-driver Steve Owen and former V8 Ute racer Stephen Robinson.

Once parity testing is completed, the Utes will be turned over to their respective teams as they continue to prepare for the opening round in Adelaide next month.

The test utes have been provided by Ross Stone Racing (Holden), Ranger Racing (Ford), Sieders Racing (Mitsubishi), Western Sydney Motorsport (Toyota) and Peters Motorsport (Mazda).

Supercars team owner Charlie Schwerkolt will also attend today's test as he evaluates running an entry in the series.

Stone and SP Tools reunite

Stone’s Holden is running in SP Tools colours, marking a reunion between the Supercars Hall of Famer and the sponsor, which backed Stone Brothers Racing from 2008-12.

The Colorado will be raced this season by 23-year-old New Zealander Tom Alexander, who has previously raced Toyota 86s and V8 Touring Cars in his homeland.

The Hilux on track

Steve Wilson Racing’s Isuzu DMAX is also set to make the opening round but, unable to be completed before the test, will undergo its own parity evaluation at Queensland Raceway in the coming weeks.

The inaugural SuperUtes round will take place at the Adelaide 500 on March 1-4.
