Breakthrough victories, historic send-offs and burnout blunders

Post-race festivities are an important Supercars tradition, and the 2022 Repco Supercars Championship delivered plenty of notable celebrations.

From breakthrough victories, historic send-offs and burnout blunders, Supercars.com takes a look at the most memorable celebrations of 2022.

De Pasquale’s celebration gone wrong

Anton De Pasquale owed his mechanics "a couple of beers" after he damaged his car celebrating his Sunday podium in Sydney.

De Pasquale finished third in the Beaurepaires Sydney SuperNight finale behind Chaz Mostert and Brodie Kostecki.

De Pasquale celebrated on the in-lap, but the latter lost control coming out of the final corner.

The #11 Shell V-Power Racing Team Mustang found the concrete on driver's left, with De Pasquale limping the car to pit lane.

Waters’ Winton wins

Cam Waters defied Shane van Gisbergen to win a tense Winton finale in May.

The Mildura ace won Sunday’s final from pole, after he overhauled van Gisbergen to win Saturday’s opener.

Waters celebrated dual wins at the Pizza Hut Winton SuperSprint with his signature burnout style, ripping two epic skids.

Mostert’s Darwin delight

Chaz Mostert held off Anton De Pasquale to win a thrilling final race of the Darwin Triple Crown.

A two-tyre strategy nearly didn’t pay off for the Walkinshaw Andretti United driver, who was able to hold a charging De Pasquale on fresher tyres in a thrilling chase to the flag.

It marked a remarkable turnaround for the Clayton-based team after Mostert was disqualified from Race 16.

Mostert took to Hidden Valley Raceway to celebrate in style.

Van Gisbergen’s Pukekohe send-off

Shane van Gisbergen delivered New Zealand fans a fairytale moment in September, when he won the final Supercars race at Pukekohe.

The Kiwi star overhauled Cam Waters in a titanic battle, to secure the Jason Richards Memorial Trophy for the third time.

The three-time champion entertained the massive crowds with his signature post-race celebrations, performing a huge burnout along the main straight for his hometown fans.

Van Gisbergen’s and Tander’s historic Bathurst 1000

Shane van Gisbergen and Garth Tander combined to win Holden’s last-ever race at Mount Panorama, at this year’s Repco Bathurst 1000.

Van Gisbergen celebrated his victory as a dual Bathurst 1000 champion and claimed a breakthrough 19th win of the season, passing Scott McLaughlin’s record of 18 in 2019.

A total of 195,578 people attended the four-day event, with hundreds of fans filling the podium area on Sunday afternoon to watch the celebrations.

Feeney’s first win

Broc Feeney made history at the VALO Adelaide 500, outlasting Chaz Mostert to claim Holden’s last-ever win.

An estimated 258,000 people packed into the first Adelaide 500 since February 2020, to see an emotional victory by the Red Bull Ampol Racing rookie.

SVG’s championship burnout

Shane van Gisbergen celebrated his third Supercars championship title in spectacular style following the VALO Adelaide 500 finale.

The Red Bull Ampol Racing ace completed memorable burnout celebrations on pit straight, spinning around the championship trophy gymkhana-style.

Then Van Gisbergen parked his car on the pit wall and started a standing burnout – which continued even when he got out of the car to go and grab the trophy and play up the crowd.

Returning to his #97 Commodore with the trophy, he then performed several more donuts on his way to his post-race interview.

The 2023 Repco Supercars Championship will commence in Newcastle next March.
