Dunlop presents Fraser with replica trophy after house fire

2022 Dunlop Super2 Series champion Declan Fraser was presented with a replacement trophy for his title win on Wednesday morning at the Destination NSW Sydney Test Day on Wednesday.

Fraser lost the Super2 trophy along with the rest of his racing mementos and possessions in a devastating house fire on the Gold Coast last year.

Making matters worse for the 24-year-old, the fire occurred on the Saturday of the Repco Bathurst 1000, meaning the only possessions Fraser was left with were the ones he had in NSW.

Despite that, Fraser performed admirably on race day, combining with Andre Heimgartner at Brad Jones Racing to finish 16th.

Just over four months later, and naming rights partner of the Super2 Series, Dunlop, have stepped to replace the trophy that represents Fraser's biggest career achievement.

Fraser won the 2022 Super2 title at the helm of a Triple Eight Race Engineering Commodore VF, winning four races on his way to beating the likes of current main game drivers Matt Payne and Cameron Hill.

Fraser was on hand at Sydney Motorsport Park with BJR, where he will once again line up with Heimgartner in the Enduro Cup, and was presented with an exact replica of the Super2 trophy by Dunlop's Operations Manager Kevin Fitzsimons.

"Damn, I know what to say. Now I was not expecting that to say the least," said an emotional Fraser.

"It was pretty cool, Brad called me over and Kevin from Dunlop was there, and there's a box with a gurney on the side of it. So I thought it might have been getting a gurney or something.

"Now to open the box and have my Super2 Championship trophy recreated for me, is wild. And I know there's some people behind the scenes that have contributed to making this happen, and Kev for facilitating it.

"It's just... it's wild to see it in person and actually made me choke up a little bit. Even having this conversation right now is a little bit how you going. But really, really appreciative that everyone's made this happen."

The opening round of the 2025 Dunlop Super2 Series begins tomorrow at Sydney Motorsport Park supporting the Thrifty Sydney 500 - Opening Round. Practice 1 begins at 12:35pm local time.
