A new documentary released by Supercars on the eve of the Repco Bathurst 1000 has uncovered new insight into arguably the greatest Great Race.

A decade on from the 2014 Bathurst 1000, Supercars has published the Untold Stories documentary, just days out from track action in Bathurst.

The key players in the dramatic race — Chaz Mostert, Jamie Whincup and David Cauchi — each sat down with Supercars, reliving the events of the dramatic day.

The 2014 race, won by Mostert and Paul Morris, remains the longest in history at nearly eight hours, with the winning move coming on the final lap.

A fuel-poor Whincup was passed by Mostert with mere corners remaining, leading to wild scenes as a 22-year-old Mostert secured an unlikely victory.

The exclusive documentary, now available to watch on Supercars.com and the official Supercars YouTube channel, shows the trio rewatching key moments from the race, and their takes on the drama.

Notably, Cauchi — then Whincup’s Race Engineer — delves into the tension of the final laps, with Whincup pushing to build a gap, only to run out of fuel in the dying moments.

Mostert, meanwhile, reveals how he and Morris recovered from a mid-race crash to be a contender in the closing laps, with the now two-time winner recounting how he pushed Whincup to run out.

Whincup, meanwhile, explained how he managed to survive his own mid-race tangle, and how 2014 was little different to other occasions he has pushed the needle.

Mostert will race with fellow 2021 winner Lee Holdsworth, with Whincup to chase win No. 5 with rising star Broc Feeney, at this weekend’s event.
