Boost Mobile founder Peter Adderton has revealed his purchase of a Triple Eight Race Engineering Camaro.
Adderton revealed the news to his social media accounts on the Friday of the ongoing Gold Coast event.
The Boost Mobile boss is pictured shaking hands with Triple Eight boss Jamie Whincup.
Adderton has long desired a Supercars team of his own, having sponsored a number of squads.
Boost Mobile currently adorns both Erebus Motorsport Commodores, and has naming rights of this weekend’s Gold Coast round.
The telco recently backed an Erebus-run wildcard at the Repco Bathurst 1000.
Richie Stanaway and Greg Murphy raced the car to 11th, with Stanaway qualifying a standout fifth.
Adderton told Supercars.com at Mount Panorama that he hoped Stanaway would consider a full-time comeback.
Stanaway later said he now had eyes on a comeback, having last raced full-time in 2019.
As of Friday, Adderton now has a car and has earmarked Stanaway for the drive.
"I love the car, I love the category," Adderton said on the broadcast.
"We're trying to get a car here to race for the series next year.
"Before you race a car, you have to have one. We committed today to buy a car from Triple Eight.
"They're a great team and we're super excited... we're gonna build our own team.
"The whole plan is to do it ourselves. The support will come... Triple Eight are good to their customers.
"I see ourselves as our own team... they designed the car and developed it, so it made sense to buy it from them.
"But we want to create our own Boost Mobile Racing."
Adderton reiterated that he wanted Stanaway to race the car should he secure an entry.
"Richie's been a huge focus for us," Adderton said of Stanaway.
"He got onto the second row on the grid after not being in the car for three years.
"He knows what he's doing, we want to put support around him."
Whincup added: “We’re Triple Eight Race Engineering; we sell race cars and componentry to whoever wants them.
“Pete Adderton gave me a call and said he wants a new Camaro, a Gen3 race car.
“So we sold him one… it’s going to be up to Pete as to what he wants to do with it.
The Boost-backed Bathurst wildcard
“He’s got one of our cars, he wanted the best car, so we’ve sold him what we’ll race next year.”
Adderton will take ownership of a Gen3-specification Camaro from Triple Eight, which is General Motors' homologation team.
Triple Eight is also building cars for customer teams PremiAir Racing and Team 18.
The championship leaders have technical alliances with PremiAir Racing and Team.
Whether Triple Eight would offer technical support, should Adderton secure a future entry, Whincup said: "That’s all to be confirmed.
“There’s a bit going on for Pete to be able to race it, but he’ll do his thing.
"But he’s got a car now, so he’s ready to go."
Supercars will complete dual 250km races at Surfers Paradise this weekend.
