Red Bull Ampol Racing duo Will Brown and Broc Feeney have fought tooth and nail in 2024, but the latter has lost ground at crucial moments, creating the 180-point gap between the pair heading to the VAILO Adelaide 500.
Feeney leads Brown 13-9 in their qualifying head-to-head through 11 rounds. However, Brown has flipped the script in the races, leading 13-9 despite Feeney winning five races to his teammate's four.
In the nine races Feeney has beaten Brown home, Feeney has gained 204 points, at an average of 23 points per race. However, in the 13 races Brown finished ahead, the gain was a whopping 384 points at 29 per race, thus completing the 180-point margin.
Supercars.com breaks down the six races Feeney ceded the most ground to Brown in what has been a tightly-contested Repco Supercars Championship.
Race 7: 42 points
Across the first six races of the year in Bathurst and Melbourne, Brown and Feeney were just 17 points apart. Come Taupō, and the rain arrived. In a chaotic race start, Feeney was sent into a spin at Turn 1, with Brown leading early. Brown ultimately slumped to ninth, but gained 42 points on Feeney, who was unable to break the top 20.
Race 9: 32 points
Brown and Feeney started fourth and fifth for the Perth opener, but the former managed to fight through to second. Feeney finished where he started, finishing nearly 13 seconds behind his teammate on a circuit that has a 55-second lap. Brown scored 138 points for second and five fastest lap bonus points, and Feeney 111 for finishing fifth.
Race 10: 33 points
A day later, as Brown qualified third, Feeney slumped to 12th, and faced another damaging day. Feeney ultimately fought back to seventh as Brown passed Thomas Randle for third late on. The net result was a 33-point gain for Brown, who put 65 points on his teammate over the course of the weekend.
Race 13: 33 points
After winning both Darwin races, taking 28 points off Brown, Feeney benched 33 more points in a rollercoaster first Townsville race. Feeney looked set to get more points back, starting eighth while Brown started 13th. However, a spirited Brown charged to third, with Feeney seventh.
Race 16: 57 points
While not a dramatic day on track in the Sydney finale, it was a tough weekend overall for Feeney, who finished ninth and 11th. Fords dominated both races, but Brown made sure he picked up the pieces. Feeney was unable to go with him, battling to 11th on a day Brown claimed another podium.
Race 18: 78 points
Perhaps the most defining day in the championship came at Symmons Plains, a day after Feeney clawed back 33 points in the Tasmania opener. Brown fought by Randle for second in the closing laps, and Feeney went with him. Then, disaster struck, Randle ploughing into Feeney at the hairpin. At the time, Brown would have gained just nine points. Instead, Feeney crawled home to 15th, ceding a whopping 78 points in one fell swoop.
